Oblivion Remastered: How to increase Magicka

Increasing Magicka in Oblivion Remastered

To increase your Magicka in Oblivion, the primary method is to increase your Intelligence attribute. Magicka is very important in the game, so you might choose to invest in it on your path.

Leveling Up and attributes

  • Each time you level up, you get attribute points to spend. Investing points in Intelligence directly increases your maximum Magicka.
  • Magicka is calculated as: Intelligence x 2 + Birthsign Bonus + Racial Bonus.

Race

  • High Elves (Altmer) have a natural +100 bonus to their Magicka.
  • Bretons have a +50 bonus to their Magicka.

Birthsign

During the tutorial, you'll choose a birthsign, some of which grant Magicka bonuses:

  • The Mage: Provides a permanent +50 bonus to Magicka.
  • The Apprentice: Grants a significant +100 bonus to Magicka but comes with a 100% weakness to magic. This can make you very vulnerable to enemy spells.
  • The Atronach: Offers the largest Magicka boost at +150, along with 50% spell absorption. However, it has a significant drawback: you cannot regenerate Magicka naturally through resting. You'll need to rely on spell absorption, potions, and Welkynd Stones to replenish your Magicka.

Enchantments

  • You can enchant armor and jewelry with the Fortify Magicka effect.
  • Transcendent Sigil Stones (available at level 25+) provide the most potent constant Fortify Magicka enchantment at +50 Magicka per item. You can enchant multiple items to significantly increase your total.

Unique items

  • Necromancer's Amulet: Found at higher levels, this amulet fortifies Magicka by 130 points and Intelligence by 14 points.
  • Birthright of Astalon: Provides a +50 Fortify Magicka effect and +5 to Agility.
  • Scales of Pitiless Justice: Adds two points to your Intelligence.

Quests

  • Completing the Hermaeus Mora Daedric quest after your Intelligence reaches 100 can permanently increase it to 110, further boosting your Magicka.

Other bonuses

  • The Shivering Isles expansion allows for a glitch using Felldew to potentially gain extra Intelligence points.
  • The Knights of the Nine plug-in offers Julianos' Blessing, which provides a +5 Intelligence boost.

In summary, to maximize your Magicka:

  • Prioritize leveling up your Intelligence.
  • Consider choosing a race like High Elf or Breton.
  • Select a birthsign that suits your playstyle, weighing the benefits and drawbacks of The Mage, The Apprentice, or The Atronach.
  • Utilize enchantments with Fortify Magicka, especially using Transcendent Sigil Stones at higher levels.
  • Seek out unique items and complete quests that offer permanent Magicka or Intelligence boosts.

Keep in mind that while a large Magicka pool is beneficial for casting powerful spells, you'll also want to improve your Willpower to increase your Magicka regeneration rate.
