Becoming a Citizen of Khorinis in Gothic 2

When you reach Khorinis you will learn that you can become a citizen by working as an apprentice for the city masters:

  • Harad the blacksmith
  • Bosper the bowmaker
  • Costantino the alchemist

You will need the other masters' approval to become an apprentice for one of them. There is also Matteo the merchant but he will not hire you as his apprentice. Thorben the carpenter also cannot hire you because he is too poor to pay you.

Becoming an apprentice is important to be able to join the Militia. Before working for a master, I advise you to complete all the requirements for Thorben, Harad, Matteo and Bosper. No need to fullfill Costantino's request because that would be more difficult and if you deliver the herbs to him you will become his apprentice immediately.

Harad the blacksmith

To become Harad's apprentice you will need to bring him an orc weapon or defeat some bandits.

If you choose for the Orc weapon, you can either find one in a cave outside the city, just go out from the eastern gate and keep on the left, you will find an hidden cave there, close to some wolves. Otherwise, you can find an Orc in the woods just outside the city, next to Lobart's farm.

To take down the Orc you can ask some help from Bartok, in the marketplace area, he will take you to the woods and you can go further into the woods, after killing the shadowbeast. You will then encounter the Orchish Scout and you can take him down and get its weapon.

Dealing with the bandits will be more difficult at the beginning and you will not have help, so choose wisely if you prefer this option!

By becoming Harad's apprentice you will be able to forge weapons and sell them at full price to Harad.

Bosper the bowmaker

The most profitable apprenticeship is becoming a Hunter for Bosper, because you will then be able to sell him animal skins at full price.

Meet Bartok in the marketplace area, ask him to go hunting together, he will take you in the woods and you can get the six wolves skins you need for Bosper, and additionally, you can get a Shadowbeast skin and an Orc Weapon if you adventure further into the woods.

Costantino the Alchemist

If you insist with Costantino he will give you a list of herbs to collect to become his apprentice. Please note that if you bring him the herbs he will hire you immediately and you cannot fullfill the requirements for the other masters anymore. Keep him as the last one eventually.

Most of the herbs can be found next to the east gate, some others can be found at the ground floor in Xardas Tower. For the King Sorrel, you can ask Zuris, in the marketplace, where Costantino gets his herbs from. You will find a King Sorrel close to Lobart's farm, near the stone circle.

Matteo the Merchant

He already has an apprentice and will not hire you, but if you help him get back the gold he lent to Thorben's niece, Gritta, he will recommend you to the others.

Thorben the Carpenter

This guy won't hire you either because he doesn't have enough money, but he will give you his approval if you can get the blessing from Vatras, the Water Mage, and from Isgaroth, the Fire Mage in the marketplace area. Vatras will ask about your past and Isgaroth will ask you for a donation.
